About SIC

I. Historical Evolution

The School of Integrated Circuits (SIC) at NUIST was established in October 2023. It was formed through the integration and optimization of the Microelectronics Science and Engineering major from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, and the addition of the undergraduate major in Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems. It is one of the university's key specialized schools prioritized for development.. The history of the school can be traced back to the Electronic Teaching and Research Group of the Atmospheric Detection Teaching and Research Office, which was established in 1972. In 2002, the Electronic Science and Technology undergraduate program began enrolling students.. In 2019, based on the faculty expertise in the microelectronics direction of Electronic Science and Technology, the undergraduate major in Microelectronics Science and Engineering was established and began enrolling students. In 2020, the master's degree program in Electronic Information was set up with a direction of Integrated Circuit Engineering for enrollment. In 2022, the Microelectronics Science and Engineering major was approved as a provincial-level industry-education integration brand major construction site (implementation) and a provincial-level key industry school construction major for Internet of Things intelligent terminals. In order to meet the major national demands and local industrial development needs, and to cultivate top-notch innovative talents in the "New Engineering" field of integrated circuits, the "CEC Feiteng" industry class and "CEC Feiteng" experimental class have been successively launched since 2023.

II. Major Settings

The school offers two undergraduate majors: Microelectronics Science and Engineering and Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems. It also has a doctoral program in Integrated Circuit Design and Systems, a master's program in Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering, and a professional degree authorization point in Electronic Information - Integrated Circuit Engineering, forming a complete talent cultivation system covering undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.

Rankings:

#31 in The Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems program in China;

#49 in The Microelectronic Science and Engineering program in China.

III. Teaching Staff

The school vigorously promotes the construction of high-quality faculty, forming a talent aggregation advantage in the fields of integrated circuit-related materials, devices, circuits, and systems. The school currently has over 40 faculty and staff members, including 34 full-time teachers., Including 9 with senior titles and 14 with deputy senior titles; 6 doctoral supervisors and 20 master's supervisors. All faculty members and researchers hold doctoral degrees, and over 50% have overseas experience. The research fields are cutting-edge and have a good international perspective. The school currently has one national Huang Danian-style teacher team; it has more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level talents such as Jiangsu Province's "Double Innovation Talents", "Six Major Peak Talents", and "333 Talent Project" training objects, forming a teaching and research team with high-level discipline leaders as the core and excellent young and middle-aged scholars as the backbone.

IV. Scientific Research

The school boasts multiple important research platforms, including the Integrated Circuit and Sensor Laboratory, Wind Tunnel Laboratory, and Full Anechoic Laboratory. Focusing on the development direction of the integrated circuit industry, it concentrates on cutting-edge research areas such as integrated circuit design, circuits and systems, sensor technology, and microsystem integration and packaging technology. The school has established three research teams: the Digital and Analog Integrated Circuit and Sensor Research Team, the Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit and Power Device Research Team, and the Advanced Packaging and Testing Technology for Microsystems Research Team. It has formed its own characteristics and advantages in areas such as radio frequency integrated circuit design, millimeter-wave high-speed communication systems, MEMS sensor and actuator technology, high-performance analog integrated circuits, devices and manufacturing processes, intelligent sensor chips and information processing, electronic packaging and application technology. In recent years, the school has published over 100 SCI-indexed papers in high-level academic journals both domestically and internationally, including Nature Communications, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, and Small. It has been granted over 80 invention patents and undertaken more than 10 national-level projects including national industry special projects, national key research and development plans, national natural science foundation projects, national defense science and technology innovation projects, and national defense science and technology "leading" funds, as well as over 30 provincial and ministerial-level projects and horizontal projects. The total funding exceeds 40 million yuan, and the school has won 6 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology progress awards.

V. Talent Cultivation

The school adheres to the talent cultivation philosophy of "solid foundation, strong practical skills, broad vision, and innovative competence". , deepens the integration of industry and education, implements the collaborative education of "dual mentors" between schools and enterprises, and strengthens the cultivation of students' engineering abilities, innovative spirit, and international vision in curriculum and practical teaching. In recent years, the school has won more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level teaching awards and honorary titles, including the second prize of Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Award. Students have won more than 40 national-level awards in various discipline competitions, such as the special award for "Leading the Challenge" in the "Challenge Cup" competition, the silver award in the "Challenge Cup" China University Students' Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, the first prize in the undergraduate group of the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, the first prize in the National Finals of the China Graduate Electronic Design Contest, the highest award in the Enterprise Cup of the National Undergraduate Integrated Circuit Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the first prize in the National Finals of the National Undergraduate Embedded Chip and System Design Competition.
